Found in the gloriously unspoilt valley of the River Lyn The Staghunters Inn is a splendid family run hotel which offers superb old fashioned hospitality in a part of England where old traditions and values remain. The welcoming bar serves a wide choice of beers, ales, wines and spirits and is also the place to try the highly regarded local Exmoor Ale. The food here too is very much influenced by the hotel's location and the splendid a la carte menu, served in the atmospheric restaurant, offers seasonal Devon fare along with locally caught seafood. A magnificent Devon country hotel that is a welcoming and inviting place to stay.
It is all on one's doorstep at the Staghunters, one of the oldest and best loved hotels in North Devon. A former coaching inn, it is built on the sight of an old abbey (part of the hotel is the original chapel) and nestles on the banks of the River Lyn. If ever an hotel was in tune with its surroundings it is the Stag Hunters. There are five acres of paddock in which to stroll, or the beer garden in which to laze, and these lie on the edge of the Exmoor National Park - the home of red deer, ponies, kestrels and buzzards. In its earlier days the life of the hotel was largely dependent on hunting and fishing, and, although today its attraction is less singular, it still maintains stabling for guests who wish to bring their own mounts. Each of the 12 guest rooms are en-suite and have other modern day notions of comfort, although they are beautifully furnished in traditional style. Two of the bedrooms boast a four-poster bed. The hotel's restaurant is renowned for its traditional home cooking and the owners justly take great pride in the high reputation of their cuisine and outstanding cellars. Since visiting the Staghunters recently, and enjoying its warm hospitality and away-from-it-all location, we have recommended it to our closest friends.
